Gold's run through $3,000 and beyond
Gold moved through $3,000 an ounce for the first time in March 2025 and, later in the year, above $4,000. Commonly cited drivers were sustained central-bank purchases, geopolitical tension, concerns about government debt, and expectations of lower interest rates.
Gold pays no income, so its price depends heavily on real yields and sentiment; rallies of this size have historically been followed by sharp pullbacks as well as further gains.
The takeaway
Safe-haven assets can be volatile in their own right; position size matters as much as the thesis.
