SpaceX lists in the largest IPO ever

On 11 June 2026 SpaceX priced its shares at $135, selling about 555.6 million shares to raise roughly $75 billion, the largest initial public offering on record. The shares began trading the next day on Nasdaq under the symbol SPCX, and closed their first day at $161, a gain of about 19%.

The offering drew unusual attention from individual investors. Forbes reported that orders from individual investors topped $100 billion, and a crypto exchange was quoting a price for the shares ahead of the listing that implied a first-day rise of around a fifth.

Listings on this scale change how quickly private-market value can reach the public market. They also test the usual pattern in which an offering is priced for demand, trades up on the day, and then settles as early holders become free to sell once lock-up periods end.

The takeaway

A strong first day tells you how much demand there was at the offer price. It does not tell you what the shares are worth a year later.
